Although you use your dishwasher to clean your dishes, you also need to make sure that you spend some time cleaning your dishwasher, too. You want the machine you use to clean your dishes to be nice and clean, as well.

#1 Remove the Racks

The first thing you need to do is remove the racks from your dishwasher. Pull them out, and make sure that they are clean. If they are not clean, you are going to want to wipe down your dishwasher racks.

Removing the racks will also allow you better access to the rest of your dishwasher.

#2 Clean the Drain

Next, you need to look at the drain. The drain is located on the bottom of your dishwasher. Sometimes, junk can accumulate in the bottom of your drain. There should be a filter over the drain. You may want to remove the filter, and remove any junk that has accumulated on either side of the filter. Larger food scraps often get stuck around the filter or drain on the bottom of your dishwasher.

#3 Clean the Blade

After that, you are going to want to clean the blade that dispenses the water into your dishwasher. Sprinkle some baking soda on top of the wiper blade. Then, scrub the blade with a toothbrush to remove any built-up junk on the wiper blade.

#4 Run Your Dishwasher

Now, put the racks back into the dishwasher. Then, put a bowl in the top rack of your dishwasher with the top of the bowl facing upward. Fill the bowl with vinegar, and run the dishwasher. The vinegar will help get rid of any hidden grim inside of your dishwasher. The vinegar will also help sanitize the inside of your dishwasher and will help get rid of any bad smell inside of your dishwasher.

If your dishwasher has a particularly bad smell inside of it, pour a little bleach on the bottom of the dishwasher. Then, run a full cycle of your dishwasher. The bleach will further sanitize your dishwasher and kill any mildew or mold inside the dishwasher that is causing it to smell bad.

#5 Clean the Outside

Finally, you are going to want to wipe down the outside of your unit. Just use a damp rag to clean off the outside of your dishwasher. You should wipe down the outside of your dishwasher on a weekly basis, or whenever anything is spilled on the outside of your dishwasher.

Keeping your dishwasher nice and clean will help ensure that your dishes stay nice and clean. Cleaning your dishwasher on a regular basis will also help keep your dishwasher in good shape. By doing this, you reduce the likelihood of needing washer repair services.
