2 Things You Can Do To Get Your Washing Machine Working Again

Having a washing machine makes your life a lot easier. You don't have to pack everything up and take it to the laundromat, which can be difficult if you don't have a car. But, when your washing machine stops working, you are going to be stuck coming up with alternatives. You should call a repair tech to come and check out your washing machine as soon as possible, but there are things that you can do to troubleshoot it yourself to see if you can get it working.

No Power

If your washing machine doesn't have any power, there are a few things it could be. It could be that there is something wrong inside the washer, but there are other things that it could be. One is that the plug could've fallen out of the outlet, or at least just gotten loose enough that a circuit isn't completed. Check the plug and make sure that it is fully in the outlet. If that didn't get your washer power, then check your circuit breaker or fuse box. Something may have triggered the breaker to turn off. Check to see if the circuit is engaged. If it isn't, then flip it on to see if that helped. If not, then you need to wait until the repair tech gets to you.

Door Won't Lock

Washers won't engage if the door isn't locked or the sensor isn't engaged. You can check to see if you can get that fixed. One way that you can do that is to clean out the area where the door latch will go. Grab a flashlight to see what you can see.  You may also want to get a pair of tweezers or small needlenose pliers so that you can pull anything in that recess out. When you have cleared out anything that was in that area, check to see if the door will lock or the sensor engage so that your washer can start. Also check the hook on the door. Maybe it is bent a bit or not quite in the right place. If it is just a little off, then it isn't going to lock when the door is shut. The door may look like it is fully shut, but that slight distortion of the hook will keep it from closing.

If your washer isn't working, call a washer repair company so that they will send a repair tech to your house. You can do some things to see if you can get it working while you wait.
